Water Rising Three Inches a Minute in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS -- The Wall St. Journal reports that steady rains from Hurricane Rita are causing water to rise 3 inches a minute in New Orleans.

"Our worst fears came true," said Maj. Barry Guidry of the Georgia National Guard.

Why anyone ever decided to let people come back is beyond me. The disaster that has fallen on the people is almost beyond comprehension. And the suffering of the animals is unimagineable and seemingly beyond help at this point.

I'm not a religious person. But I'm praying hard today. If there's a lesson here, I'm sure not seeing it.
