Daimler Chrysler Launches Media Only Blog and Locks Out Bloggers

In a move that shows how completely clueless they are about blogging, Daimler-Chrysler has launched a blog for journalists only. They define journalists as those who work for a "known and established media organization" and that apparently doesn't include blogs.

According to Toby Bloomberg writing in BusinessBlog Consulting, her registration was turned down with this email explanation:

Thanks for your interest in TheFirehouse.biz, the Chrysler Group's media-only blog. We will issue media registration rights to members of the working press only. A member of the working press is one who is paid as an employee, freelancer who regularly contributes, or representative of a known and established media organization (newspaper, magazine, television, radio, etc.) If you would like to resubmit your registration, we would be happy to reconsider it.

When I registered, I got a message that said to come back any time after September 12th, but then I couldn't log in.

Listen up Chrysler: blogs are an extablished medium, many blogs have more readers than many MSM these days, and guess what: MSM reads bloggers for leads. And by the way, nobody under 50 has a clue who that old guy Lee Iacocca is.

And hey, The Firehouse is a really stupid name for a blog from a car company. It'd be great for a fire department though.

BL - that's what happened to me. I registered. Couldn't access the blog and the next day received that email. They must be checking all submissions against a master list.
