R.I.P. Sammy Ochman, Aug. 2, 1992 to Aug. 27, 2005

Sam_Angel_JV.jpg

After a brief battle with lymphoma that zapped his strength but not his spirit, I, today, put to sleep the beautiful, funny, loyal, regal, clever and pure, loving companion who made me laugh every day for 13 years. He was surrounded by people who loved him and the end was peaceful and quiet.

He's taken his place in heaven, and left a hole in my heart.

Rest in peace my beautiful boy dog.

BL, sorry for your loss. - Steve

Posted by: Steve Rubel at August 28, 2005 12:14 AM

Ms. Ochman,

Sorry, sorry to hear it. They give us all they've got, and don't ask for much in return. Seems that every moment we have with them is a gift. An irreplaceable gift.

Hope you can find some peace in the coming days as well.

Warm Regards,

Larson

Sorry to hear that - our family Dog isn't do well either and I feel a little of your pain.

Posted by: Darren at August 28, 2005 2:14 AM

Sorry to hear about your loss BL. I had to put down my yellow lab after fourteen years of companionship this year. Unfortunately our dogs don't live as long as we do, but they do provide the most love an animal can give. Cherish the memories.

So sorry for your loss.

B.L.,

Sorry to hear about your loss. Both of the cats I grew up with passed away in the last year and a half, and it was a bit strange being at my parents' house without them wandering around. Hope you are doing okay.

Sorry to hear this news, B.L. I watch my sweet puppy (all 85 lbs of her) every day, knowing that 11 years is a long life and there may not be a whole lot more. But, she still acts like a puppy and I still call her that. The world is a bit dimmer since I read this.

I'm so sorry BL.

I know this won't help much, but check out the Rainbow Bridge, where you can also leave a tribute to Sammy:

My condolences to you about the loss of your dog. I know what they can mean and how they become part of your family. We have a nine-year-old Beagle, Snoopy. I'm sure his passing left a real void. I appreciate you and your work. WES

BL, you and Sammy are in my thoughts. He was loved and you made his life better. He made you happy, too. All of the sweet memories will heal your heart with time.

Hi BL:
My heart is with you and Sammy at this time of loss. I was privileged to be Sammy's veterinarian for many years...and watched him improve and stay healthy and happy for so many years with homeopathic care. I was also honored to be with you and Sammy yesterday and help him end his suffering.

As a veterinarian who always wants to save lives, it is always difficult to perform this final act. But sometimes it is kinder to relieve suffering than to prolong life. I am enclosing two poems that have brought comfort to my clients at times like this. These poems were sent to me by my clients. They may not take away the pain but will honor our four legged furry irreplacable companions. Blessing to you and the spirit of Sammy who is free to be with you always...Love Jill Elliot, DVM

First poem:

And God asked the canine spirit
Are you ready to come home?
I believe so, replied the precious soul
My toys and bones can remain
As a reminder of love and dedication

Can you come then? asked God
Soon, replied the tail-wagging angel
But I must come slowly
For my human companions are troubled
For you see, I am their best friend

Bud don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?"
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is... forever and ever and ever

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious dog
For I will whisper gently into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am... forever and ever and ever.

Finally, here is another poem that I love and which has always been a great comfort at these difficult times when our animals die:

Grieve not for me, nor speak of me with tears,
But laugh, as if I were beside you.
I love you so,
'Twas Heaven here with you.

Hugs and Blessings... Jill

Very sorry to hear this.

Thirteen years is a long time for a dog that big, you must have taken good care of him.

thank you jill for your friendship, help and kindness to me and Sammers. and for the poems. both are beautiful.

thank you to everyone for the kid words.

this morning, i took our usual walk to central park and brought the fatten up biscuits i baked for Sammy to give to his buds in the park. I will keep doing the walk for my soul and his and because i need my dose of furry love.

I'm not going to blog today.

BL my friend,
You know how sad I am for your loss but joyous for heaven's gain! Sammy was indeed a special soul who will as Jill's poem stated, always be with you.

You know that since my business is working with pets, I don't take lightly the passing of a fur friend. My heart is aching with you but I'm so happy for Sammy's new freedom. He'll never be forgotten and you and he shared such a great life together BL. That counts for so much in this world.

Much love to you my friend,
Kim :-)

Hi BL,

I'm so, sorry to hear about Sammy. My wife and I are pet parents of two loving basset hounds, Maggie and Lenny. They are our children and we like to think they'll warm our home forever, but of course they won't.

So, thanks for sharing with us Sammy's story. It helps us prepare for the day when our hounds have joined him. I hope the words, thoughts and prayers of your friends help you through the next few weeks. Be well!

BL,
I am so sorry for your loss. My Golden "Sante" lived to be 16 and it was one of the toughest things ever to tell her goodbye. I now have 6 year-old "Bogie" and 3 year-old "Pistol Pete" and although they'll never replace "Sante" or her memory, they certainly helped fill the hole in my heart.
Hang in there.

Hello BL.

It was sad to read the news of Sammy’s departure to his new home. I wasn’t fortune to meet him although always was hopeful to do so. I share your grieve for Sam and wish your friends and loved ones are doing a good job lifting up your spirit to bring you back as quickly as possible to complete the mission that Sam lived for and that is helping others, filling their heart with happiness, and brightening their faces with true smiles.

My heart, best wishes goes to you and I always wish you as much as you wish for yourself. Osama Soliman

Hi B.L.,

I am so sorry for your loss. You know I'm not a big fan of big dogs, but Sammy was special.

Hugs & best wishes,

B.L., I feel for your loss. My now ex-wife also has a lab she may have to put down soon. (She recently had to put down a lab puppy that was very sick.) The dog, a British lab named Tania, has served as a therapy dog working with special education students. I spoke of you loss to her and she keenly shares your grief, as do I.

IF EVER YOU NEED ME:

If ever you need me, I'll be right here, To chase away the sadness, And wipe away a tear. If ever you need me, I'll be two steps behind, To follow in your footsteps, And hear what's on your mind. If ever you need me, You'll never have to fear, That your presence isn't important, And your love isn't dear. If ever you need me, I'll always be around, to bring back the laughter, Where deep in your heart it's found. You'll never have to worry, For I'll always be here, To chase away the sadness, And wipe away a tear. I AM HERE FOR YOU! (even in spirit) ~author unknown
