Wall St. Journal's Walter Mossberg Recommends MSN Spaces Blog Software for Novice Personal Blogs Only

Wall St. Journal tech maven Walter Mossberg reviews Microsoft's blog service, MSN Spaces and concludes that it is a good service for the novice blogger.

While MSN Spaces has some impressive features, he lists as downsides the fact that features work best in Microsoft Internet Explorer and that layouts can be customized only in a limited way.

As Microsoft uber blogger Robert Scoble -- who doesn't use MSN Spaces for his Microsft blog -- advised, MSN Spaces is great for the novice personal blogger. "Now, if you want readers, that's a whole nother discussion. Or if you want to have a business blog, that's a whole different one. Or if you want to customize your blog, we could spend days talking about that."

Well, that's what always "confused" me in all these blog reviews of Yahoo 360 and MSN Spaces. Are these blogging tools competing with WordPress, Blogger and Type Pad, or more with Live Journal and MySpace?

It's a different audience that the two are playing to. At least, that's what I believe.
