Christo's Gates Unfurled to Blow Like Lovely Cosmic Laundry in Central Park
Christo's Gates were unfurled in Central Park this morning to blow, like lovely cosmic laundry, in the wind until the end of the month.
A joyous crowd turned out to celebrate the installation. The 7,600 Gates over 23 miles are being unfurled one by one by people with long sticks -- about as low tech as you can get. And adding to the charm.
Christo raised all the funding privately. Not a dime of public money has been used, and the installation is expected to bring $80 million in hotel, restaurant and other spending by tourists, according to media reports.
BL, thanks for posting this lovely picture and sharing a non-business/tech/blog post. I'll be in NYC next week just to see the Gates and contribute some of that $80 million to NYC!
