New York Magazine subscribers -- who make up the bulk of readership -- get an issue this week with model Martynka Wawrzyniak naked on the cover. It's not clever, sexy or funny. It's just skin. It would have been amusing if the shot included all the people with camera cell phones shooting the shoot. But they aren't in the picture.
Newsstand issues feature a mug shot of Ethan Hawke in her place.
Editor Adam Moss, who says the picture was his decision, tells the New York Postís Keith Kelly that the split-cover had all to do with appropriateness. ìIt wouldnít fly on newsstands ñ they just wouldnít put it out with a cover like that, so therefore there could be no uproar,î he says.
Does Moss expect some subscribers to be offended that he has sent a naked model walking into their homes? "We expect only delighted calls from subscribers," he insisted.
