The tiny Mexican village of Mesa Blanco, fed up with a series of political scandals, has elected a mule as its mayor according to The Week Magazine. "The previous mayor had been arrested for bribery and so had the chief of police," Elian Santiago, a resident, said.
One day, the pastor of the church said it would be better to elect an honest donkey as mayor than a dishonest man. His congregation took him up on his suggestion, rallying behind a mule named Pickles who defeated two other candidates by a wide margin of 80 votes. "Everyone in town trusts Senor Pickles," says Santiago. "He is known for his honesty and good nature."
