McDonald's & Sony: Brilliant Music Deal, Dumb Spokesperson Choice
McDonald's has entered into a brilliant music making partnership with Sony. But they sully it by using Janet Jackson Super Bowl cohort Justin Timberlake in commercials breaking this week. Given all the talent in the Sony stable, it would have been a snap to find a better spokesperson for the campaign.
The program enables purchasers of a Big Mac Extra Value Meal to download one free song of their choosing from Sony's Connect online music store. Access to millions of McDonald's customers is a coup for Sony, who wants to muscle into Apples's iTunes territory. It's an effort to make the 500,000 tunes in Sony's library easier to purchase than to steal, SonyConnect general manager Jay Samit told the Daily News.
