Danier Leather To Break Very Cool TV Ad

leather.jpgDanier Leather has a very hip TV commercial soon to break. It features a young woman working at her laptop in a hotel lobby, only to have another guest drop his room key on the desk. Her response is extremely creative, and funny.

The video is already making the rounds via email -- a sure viral hit.

Pretty cool coming from a low-profile company with an amateurish looking Web site! No word on the site about where the campaign will run.

Thanks to Mike Sussell for the tip

Does anybody know who the artist is singing to this commercial?

Posted by: JA at June 20, 2004 6:15 AM

Here's the response I got from Danier, who ain't telling.:
Thank-you for your interest in Danier. The music provided in our commercial was exclusively made for Danier. The artist has been labeled as "unknown". It consists of a 30 second melody and is not a full song. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Kind Regards,
Annette

Love the commercial, but:
1) It is a DayPlanner(like) binder she is working on, not a laptop. She also has a small luggage bag.
2) It appears to be a hotel bar or restaurant in a hotel(either possibly opening into the lobby), not the lobby itself. Note the man at the bar as she is exiting.
3) To me, the ad says 'Wear our leather coat and look like a high-class call-girl.' But that's just me...

I love commercials like this, with a suprise twist at the end, even if you don't get to actually see it.

Also, about the music: Gee, isn't 30 seconds the amount of a song you can use 'fair play' without having to credit or pay royalties? Maybe it was 'stock' music, and they are too embarrassed to admit it!

I agree that she looked like a high-class hooker.
And unless you watch it more than once, I'm not sure you'd even notice the jacket she wore. I watched it several times and never noticed a suitcase.

The music sounds an awful lot like Macy Gray.

Posted by: Robby at July 1, 2004 7:16 PM

I must have this music! Someone out there must know who it is.

Posted by: Carmen at July 14, 2004 12:08 PM

The music has a very commercial sounding voice I can't quite place. I'd say more Norah Jones than Macy. Is it an old Porter Cole song? They said 30 seconds when it's more like a minute, hmmmmm.

Does anyone know the name of the actor who plays the older man at the bar?

Posted by: elizabeth at June 21, 2005 3:25 AM

First of all, it doesn't sound like Norah Jones at all, aside from being female. Two, I doubt they would use Macy Gray and not say as such, it would be like having an endorsement from her to do so. Plus then it would be on one of her albums, and i haven't found it so far. But I do love the song and would like to find out who does it, even if it was truly just made for the commercial.

Posted by: buddyboy at June 24, 2005 2:14 AM

Does anyone know who the actress is? She is so gorgeous, I can't stand it.

Posted by: Rolfe at July 25, 2005 1:42 PM

Is it possible it could be Ruth Brown? It sounds like her to me.

Posted by: Tony at October 5, 2006 9:01 AM

That's definitely Macy Gray! Although, I don't know what song she is singing. The rasp is too distinct when she sings the words "in the still of the night."

Posted by: memchee at October 15, 2006 12:38 AM

it almost sounds like Eartha Kitt, but she's too old and wouldn't likely be the pick for this or take it. Checking out Macy, could be.
