NY Times' Friedman Catches Rumsfeld in Blatant "Face The Nation" Lie

RUMSFELD.jpgSecretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld blatantly lied on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday when he told moderator Bob Schieffer it has become "folklore" that he or the President used the phrase "immediate threat" in relation to Sadaam Hussein. "I didn't, the president didn't. if you have any citations, I would like to see them," he said.

Thomas Friedman of The New York Times then confronted Rumsfeld with his statement:
"No terror state poses a greater or more immediate threat to the security of our people and the stability of the world than the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq."
Donald Rumsfeld, Sept 18,2002

Sec. RUMSFELD: "Mm-hmm. It--my view of--of the situation was that he--he had--we--we believe, the best intelligence that we had and other countries had and that--that we believed and we still do not know--we will knowÖ"

Despite the fact that Bush's credibility is a major campaign issue, when asked whether he expected to be involved in the president's re-election campaign, Rumsfeld said, "There won't be a role. The president has specifically asked Colin Powell and me not to be involved in the campaign."

With Congress today Congress today debating a resolution congratulating Bush, for (they claim) making the world safer, MoveOn.Org will hold a DC press conference to call for the President's censure.

Rumsfeld is unworthy, imo, to guide our great nation in any way.

I want to know what the White House has on Colin Powell to have changed him from a man of honor into a puppet? Anyone have a clue?

It should come as no surprise that an administration so aligned with the behaviors of the Third Reich would eventually get caught up in a lie like this. Despite Donald "Goebbels" Rumsfeld's penchant for making use of the famous propaganda tool "repeat the lie often enough and people will start to believe it.", he was bound to get caught. This administration hasn't been able to completely supress all forms of expression and free press yet.

Kudos to Thomas Friedman for calling the neocons out on national tv. We can only hope the masses will stop watching the latest realty show tripe long enough to pay attention to what's really going on with this country's leadership.
